Enjoying European Quality Coffee in America

Europeans, as I understand it, are among the biggest coffee connoisseurs on earth. Every day begins with Un Cafe from Paris, to Rome, to Bern. If there is one thing Americans haven't been able to compete with Europeans, it's a good espresso, cappuccino, or latte.

I have relaxed beside the Eiffel Tower in Paris, enjoying espressos that would bring a tear to the eye of any true coffee loving American- My espresso and coffee tasting experience is above most average drinkers. You see, my step Dad is Swiss. My family has been spoiled with one of the best espresso makers on the market (you can buy certain used cars for the same price of this machine) because in Switzerland coffee is of the the utmost importance. Brands like Yuban and Columbia house would make a Swiss person gag.

Even so, this espresso machine still couldn't compare to that espresso we enjoyed near the Eiffel Tower. It seemed, for years, that the only way to get the best coffee was to actually go to Europe. That is, until my Step-Dad visited his family this year and had his first taste of "Nespresso." His family had purchased a Nespresso machine since his last trip and now drinks nothing else. He immediately went to the store and purchased a Nespresso Machine to bring back to the states, and I owe him a debt of gratitude because of it.

Nespresso currently comes in 16 flavors, which include both espresso type servings and coffee style. Their machines allow you to choose from 2 different settings based on the size of drink that you would like to enjoy, and the Nespresso capsules are specially made to correspond with the size of drink. Any capsule labeled with "lungo" is used for coffee size drinks. Nespresso decaf is also available in espresso and "Lungo" sizes. Currently capsules can only be purchased directly from Nespresso. Most Nespresso drinkers are a part of the Nespresso club, which offers discounts to frequent buyers and an initial credit of $75 toward capsules for Nespresso when you buy your machine.

Every taste of Nespresso reminds me of the perfection that Europe has brought to coffee. And yet, there are currently only 6 Nespresso stores in the United States. Luckily, we have the internet, and there are plenty of websites that feature Nespresso information, including videos with their spokesman George Clooney that are fairly humorous. Do some research, and you too can enjoy the taste of Europe in your own home.
